Utility Status
Utility Status values are used to identify the current state of a utility. This value is often used to indicate whether the utility is currently being utilized (for example, Active, Pending, Inactive, or Obsolete). These values populate the Status drop-down menu on the Utility module's Create Utility page when the utility item is selected.
To open the Utility Status page:
-
Open the Administration Menu page.
-
Under the UTILITY ADMINISTRATION heading, click Utility Status.
Adding a utility status value allows you to define the values that are included in the Status drop-down menu on the Create Utility page. To create a new utility status:
-
Click the Add New link.
The Add Utility Status dialog box opens.
-
In the Name field, enter a name for the status.
The name you enter must be unique.
-
In the Active Status field, select Yes if this status is active.
You may need to define several types of active or inactive statuses to indicate the current state of a utility. For example, both the Obsolete and Pending statuses may be inactive, but Obsolete indicates that the utility will never be used while Pending indicates that the utility is not yet being used, but may be used soon.
-
In the Description field, enter a description of the utility status.
-
In the Tab Order field, enter a numeric value.
The Tab Order indicates the position, in menus, where this value will be listed. Lower numbered values are displayed toward the top of the list. Values will the same tab order will be sorted alphabetically.
-
Click ADD.
The utility status value is added to the list. The name of the user who added the utility status value and the date and time when it was added are displayed.
Utility status values can be modified. For example, if you want to change the value that users see, you can modify the name. To edit a utility status value:
-
Click the Edit link to the right of the utility status value you want to edit.
The Edit Utility Status dialog box opens.
-
Modify any of the following values:
- Name – the value that users see
- Active Status – Yes indicates that the utility status value is active
- Description – information about the utility status value
- Tab Order – the position in which the utility status value will be displayed in drop-down menus
-
Click UPDATE.
The modified utility status parameters, including the name of the user who edited them and the date and time when they were edited, are displayed.
Utility status values that have not been used can be deleted from the system. If a utility status has been assigned to a utility, it cannot be deleted.
If a utility status value has been used but is no longer needed, you can edit it and make it inactive to prevent it from being displayed to users.
To delete a utility status value:
-
Click the Edit link to the right of the utility status value you want to delete.
The Edit Utility Status dialog box opens.
-
Click the Delete link in the top right corner of the dialog box.
A dialog box opens asking you to confirm your choice.
-
Click OK.
